Hey there, gang! I hope your week is off to a great start. Or at least as good as can be.
I try my best to spread positive energy, especially in the face of division and bigotry. One of my favorite ways to do that is to hop onto Reddit and visit sections like r/toastme, r/glowups and r/debtfree.
I like to celebrate unequivocal wins, even those of complete strangers. Leaving an anonymous compliment or supportive comment on a post from someone who has shared a story about how they’re improving their life helps me, and I hope it helps them too. I believe that lifting up others helps lift up ourselves, and this is a really easy way to do both.
Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for Connections and this column on Discord. You can chat about each game (and other topics) with me and other folks. I’m always interested to find out how other people approach the game, so join us! It’s fun.
It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, February 11, are coming right up.
How To Play Connections
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.
You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints for each grid via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are…
- Yellow group — wrest (JERK, TUG, WRENCH, YANK)
- Green group — buster (BUB, BUD, JACK, MAN)
- Blue group — yoga accessories (BLOCK, BOLSTER, MAT, STRAP)
- Purple group — _____ cap (HUB, KNEE, MAD, NIGHT)
No perfect game, but I now have five fab wins in a row. Here’s how I fared:
I had no problems at all with the first two groups. JERK and YANK combined in my brain for an entry point into the yellows. BUD and MAN did the same for the greens.
Those are basically just informal forms of address for someone. I call people BUD all the time. BUB and JACK are a little more antiquated, though.
I wasn’t quite sure where to go from there. I tried a guess of STRAP, MAT, KNEE and BLOCK for fun. I guess they made sense as sort of fitness-related things? Those put me one away from a group at least.
I figured KNEE was the odd one out. I swapped in HUB, but no dice. But BOLSTER? That worked. I had never head of that in the context of fitness, but it’s a long pillow that’s used to help with yoga. Like I always say, I often learn new things while I’m playing this game. As for a BLOCK, I believe this is a block often made of foam or another sturdy material that yoga practitioners can use to help balance themselves.
I should have figured out the purples. The first thing that came to mind when I saw HUB on the grid initially was hubcap, but I put that to the back of my mind. And I couldn’t shake the notion that NIGHT was referring to “night market.” I was wrong about that, but hey, my streak is intact.
That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Wednesday’s game if you need them.
P.S. Regular readers might have figured out that I’ve had some rose-tinted glasses on lately. I’ve been on a bit of a nostalgia trip in recent days, and that includes revisiting some of my favorite music when I was but a wee lad, including the early records from my all-time favorite band.
Foo Fighters mean a lot to me for many reasons. I literally would not be where I am without them. “Learn to Fly” was my introduction to the band, and I still had fond feelings for that song and its memorable video. But I’m going to go with another track from the same album it stems from, There Is Nothing Left To Lose.
“Breakout” follows that classic quieter verse, loud chorus formula to great effect. It’s about someone causing the narrator so much stress that they have a “break out” of pimples. For the longest time, I thought it was about the protagonist losing their mind, but nope!
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
